Feb 20, 2012

Thanks for the encouraging word you sent to me. I love reading your emails. I am so glad to hear that Chad started his mission, He is going to love it. He and Brandon there at the same time, that would be so much fun. Thanks for all your support. I got the package from Shea and it had all my socks in it. Thanks for that. I am doing well with that now. I have had a great week. So here it is...

There has been a lot of progress made this week. I am glad to see two of our investigators come to church. Gerald Dwyer and Herman Dias, both are dated for baptism. Gerald is amazing! He is always prepared to visit with us and always keeps commitments. At church yesterday he was meeting people and telling them that he was going to get baptized on the tenth of March. He loves coming to church and seeing all the friendly people. We had an amazing lesson with him this week. We taught him the gospel of Jesus Christ which was just what he needed. During the lesson you could feel the spirit so strong there was no such thing as doubt. After we had taught him about faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost we asked him if that was something that he wanted in his life. He said with confidence that he does. Then we asked him what he thinks of it all. He said, "I think I want to join the Mormon church." That lesson was one of the best lessons I was able to participate in. Elder Ford was such a great teacher in that lesson. I am amazed at how simply he teaches the doctrine. Gerald, ever since then, has not looked back and is determined to follow Christ. I know the Lord will bless him.

Herman is amazing too. I mentioned about him last week how he just showed up to church. We taught him once this week and he came to church again. He has such a strong desire to follow Christ and he is very receptive to the spirit. He understands prayer really well and how to receive personal revelation. When we were sharing with him the first vision he felt the spirit strongly. After we finished reciting to him what Joseph Smith had experienced he waited and paused in silence. Then after a minute he said to us that when he felt the spirit he was saying to himself, "Father is this true, what these missionaries are saying, is it true?" and when he said that simple prayer in his heart the spirit got stronger. He has had some experiences the last month which has lead him to recognize the truth. He is on his way to the path of righteousness.

Elder Ford is such a great missionary. He is so missionary minded and always seeking for what the spirit wants of him. He has revelatory planning ideas which result in amazing experiences. He definitely came on his mission prepared. His knowledge of the scriptures is fantastic and his heart is so in the right place. I am grateful to be his companion.

Last night the StockPort area had an amazing miracle. As you know there are two companionships serving in this area. Keep that in mind as I tell this story. Imagine two friends planning to meet up at a fixed destination. One of those young men's name is Danny who Elder Ford and I met on the bus about 7:15 last night. We continued talking with him when we both got of the bus in town center. Eventually it lead to teaching him on the spot. Danny was so prepared because he was praying the last week and I believe we were an answer to his prayers. He felt the spirit during the lesson and he was so glad that we met him yesterday. After the lesson we walked with him a ways as we went to our next appointment. We then separated after walking with him for five minutes. Now the other Elders (Herrin and Webster) just came out of a lesson and went to the nearest bus stop to catch the bus. They meet a young man who was waiting for his friend and eventually started to teach him on the spot. After they finished teaching him, they were saying their goodbyes and up comes his friend. To their surprise his friend walks up with a Book of Mormon in his hand. It was Danny! they realized what had happened and they were so excited about it. These two friends who planned to meet up on a Sunday night ended up meeting missionaries along the way and both accepted to be baptized. That is absolutely amazing! We are meeting with Danny tonight. I can't wait.

It has been a great week. I hope that yours goes well this week. Talk to you next time

Love, Elder Tucker Corbin
